Located on High Rock Road at the Mason Dixon Line in Cascade MD, at an altitude of 1400 feet, this site was selected in 1871 by the Western Maryland Railroad as the location for an amusement park. The park opened to the public in August 1877. It had a roller coaster, carousel, miniature train and railroad station, a dining hall that seated 450, and a huge dance pavilion. The band played for dancing each afternoon and evening, Monday through Saturday, and presented a concert each Sunday. The park attractions were dismantled in March 1943. – A new, reconstructed Pen Mar Park opened to the public in August 1980. Today, the dance pavilion has an induction loop system for the hearing impaired and hundreds of people enjoy the Sunday afternoon dances with live music.
