DESCRIPTION:Now through Monday November 17th\, 2025\nHomeless Matters Collects Personal Care Items for Children’s Aid Society at Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center\nHalloween and Thanksgiving are just around the corner as the year surges toward Christmas and a new year.\nLate October is a flurry of fun\, family activities as many youth head to trick or treat and make plans to celebrate family Thanksgiving.\nIt is a time to count blessings and think about others.\nIn the spirit of sharing and celebrating the bounty of the season\, Homeless Matters of Franklin County is collecting personal and personal care items for the Children’s Aid Society.\nThe Children’s Aid Society formed in 1884 to help homeless children and children that did not have their basic needs met.\nIt served Franklin County and today reaches out to south central Pennsylvania.\nOverall\, the Children’s Aid Society works to help young people from ten to eighteen to be safe\, secure\, and stable through a number of programs\, including adoption\, foster care\, residential services\, and diagnostic support.\nHomeless Matters is collecting personal care items—such things as Chapstick\, lotion\, deodorant\, brushes\, and combs. Other items include pens\, pencils\, journals\, art supplies\, teen socks\, hats\, gloves\, lip gloss\, body sprays\, and hygiene items. Consider sharing with community youth and donate a care-item. Something small will make a special moment for the youth of the Children’s Aid Society.\nHomeless Matters will be collecting items for the Children’s Aid Society through November 17th.\nDonations can be made at the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center\, 15 South Main Street in Chambersburg\, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM\, Monday through Friday\, and 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.\nFor questions or to arrange another time to donate\, please contact 717.552.2977.\nHomeless Matters of Franklin County is a committee of concerned citizens working to address the most urgent and critical needs of homeless families as they strive to ease burdens and assist in giving the opportunity for success in the face of personal hardship.

DESCRIPTION:Thursday November 13th\, 2025 * 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM\nJoin Franklin County Visitors Bureau\, South Mountain Partnership\, and outdoor enthusiast Jessica Human for a hike to Monterey Pass Overlook.\nSouth Mountain Partnership and Franklin County Visitors Bureau are teaming up for a fall Walk & Talk at Monterey Pass in Blue Ridge Summit.\nWalkers/hikers will meet at the Monterey Pass Battlefield parking lot on Charmain Road\, directly across from the Monterey Pass Museum.\nThe hike/walk travels to Monterey Pass Overlook.\nMany leaves fell earlier this fall\, so it is a chance to see a wider view of the valley and a great chance to snap some wide range pictures.\nFollowing the walk\, everyone is invited to Michaux Brewing on Buchanan Trail–one of the stops on the Franklin County Pour Trail with great beer\, great cider\, and great snacks.\nFirst beverage is complimentary along with snacks like loaded potato skins and cheese curds.\nThe Monterey Pass Walk & Talk will be led by outdoor adventurer and travel blogger/photographer Jessica Human.\nJessica specializes in appreciating destinations through a thoughtful\, sustainable approach and encourages others to slow down and enjoy the world around them.\nWhen asked how she thought slow travel contributes to the world\, she responded:\n“Slow travel\, to me\, is about truly connecting with a place—walking its streets\, meeting its people\, and soaking up its everyday rhythm.\nIt’s taking time to understand the local culture\, supporting small businesses\, and traveling with respect for the environment.\nSlow travel is about being present\, appreciating each moment\, and making a positive impact on the community by choosing experiences that honor the local way of life.\nIt’s also about encouraging others to travel thoughtfully\, helping them see the value in depth over speed\, and connecting with people and places on a real level.”\nCheck out Jessica’s Instagram @wechooseadventures and online at: https://www.wechoseadventures.com/…/she-chose…\n\n*** Monterey Pass was fought on July 4th-5th\, 1863 during the Confederate Retreat from the Battle of Gettysburg.\nMore than 10\,000 Union and Confederate troops clashed during the late hours of July 4th and early hours of July 5th in a severe thunderstorm.\nUnion forces were trying to capture and impede the Confederate wagon train as it retreated toward the Potomac River.\nThe battle was fought in Adams and Franklin Counties PA and Washington and Frederick Counties MD on the South Mountain.\nHike Information:\nTotal hike is about 1.6 miles and will take about an hour at a leisurely pace.\nElevation climbs about 295-feet.\nTwo-hour time frame allows for exploration and photo-taking at the outlook.\nThis is a ticketed event! \nLIMITED SPACE!! \nMUST RESERVE ON EVENTBRITE: https://www.eventbrite.com/…/monterey-pass-walk-talk…
