SUMMARY:Franklin County Tire Collection Event | Former Franklin County Jail\, Chambersburg
DESCRIPTION:Friday April 11th\, 2025 * 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM\nStaff from the county’s Planning Department\, under its mosquito and tick-borne disease control program\, and All Cleaned Out Junk Removal are coordinating the event.\nCurrently\, strict guidelines and fees hinder some individuals’ ability to properly dispose of scrap tires.\nOften old tires are discarded and remain unused on properties until the resident has the time or the means for proper disposal.\nIn the meantime\, these tires can fill with rain water and become the perfect breeding habitat for mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.\nThe April 11 collection event helps Franklin County residents dispose of unwanted tires for a reduced fee while at the same time eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites.\nOn average\, one water-filled tire can produce 10\,000 mosquitoes per year.\n“Mosquitos pose a threat to our residents’ health and wellbeing\, not to mention they can put a damper on outdoor activities\,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst.\n“We hope our residents will take advantage of this opportunity to discard unused tires and reduce our local mosquito population as we head into warmer months.”\nFranklin County residents must pre-register for this first-come\, first-served event\, and this event is open to county residents only.\nThere is a limit of 20 tires per household and the fees are:\nRegular vehicle tires (up to 35 inches in height) – $1 per tire\nTires measuring 36-47 inches in height – $2 per tire\nTires measuring 48 inches in height or larger – $15 per tire\nTires on rims and tires that are full of debris such as mud\, water or concrete will not be accepted.\nTo register for this event\, visit https://lfweb.franklincountypa.gov/Forms/YWhoD.\nForms are also available through the Franklin County Planning Department by calling 717.261.3855 or emailing planning@franklincountypa.gov.\nAll completed registration forms and checks\, made payable to FCPC\, must be submitted to the Franklin County Planning Department\, 272 N. Second St.\, Chambersburg\, PA 17201\, no later than April 4.\nFor more information\, contact the Franklin County Planning Department at 717.261.3855 or planning@franklincountypa.gov.\nFormer Franklin County Jail | 625 Franklin Farm Lane\, Chambersburg
