DESCRIPTION:Thursday January 1st\, 2026 * 1:00 PM\nStart 2026 out right with a First Day Hike at Cowans Gap State Park!\nWe will be offering 3 guided hiking sessions on Thursday\, January 1\, 2026.\nAll hikes will start at Pavilion #2\, where free hot beverages and snacks will be offered.\nDress appropriately in layers for the weather and bring water to drink.\nLAKESIDE TRAIL HIKE – Sessions #1 and #2: This is the same hike\, offered at 2 time slots.\nThe first hike will start at 1:00 PM and the second hike will start at 2:00 PM.\nThe hikes are 1.5 miles long and are over easy terrain along the scenic\, level trail that encircles Cowans Gap Lake.\nThis hike is a family and pet friendly hike.\nOVERLOOK TRAIL HIKE – Session #3: The hike to the overlook will begin at 1:00 PM.\nThis hike is 2.5 miles long over moderate to hard terrain.\nThe hike is along the Knobsville Road Trail\, climbing Cove Mountain to the park overlook and may continue on to a second overlook depending on time and trail conditions.\nWear sturdy shoes and dress comfortable.\nRegistration is suggested but not required.\nIn case of bad weather\, you can find cancelation information here on or our Facebook page.\nWe look forward to seeing you there!
