The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society will meet at the State Line Ruritan Building, 15481 Park Drive, located off Route 11 at the State Line, PA Community Park.
Guest speaker will be Bob O’Connor, an author of historical fiction and non-fiction novels from Charles Town, WV.
The program will be “A House Divided Against Itself.”
Wesley and William Culp, both from Gettysburg, were the only two brothers that we know of who fought against each other in two different Civil War battles – the Battle of Falling Waters in 1861 and the Second Battle of Winchester in 1863.
Hear the story of how the brothers enlisted separately, and what happened leading them back to the Battle of Gettysburg.
Mr. Poniske will discuss and read excerpts from his Civil War era novel, Snakebit, Prelude to War, the first in a series that spans the years of the Civil War and Reconstruction.
Following the discussion, the author will sign books, which will be for sale at the gallery.

John was raised in Springfield, Illinois (Lincoln’s hometown), so the Civil War has always held him in its thrall.
He has been a feature reporter, freelance writer as well as a teacher.
He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history.
It has long been his ambition to write Civil War fiction.
