Renfrew Museum and Park will host its annual Christmas on the Farm holiday event on December 4, 5, and 6, 2020. Renfrew invites visitors to “Walk Back in Time” through over 200 years of tradition on its historic Pennsylvania German farmstead and rediscover the simple joys of Christmas Past with a safe, family-friendly experience this holiday season!

Follow the soft glow of flickering lanterns and the fiery blaze of torches to the beautifully decorated Museum House to encounter how treasured traditions evolved over the centuries. Explore some of our historic outbuildings where period-attired interpreters will share even more holiday cheer! Enjoy a cozy warming circle while waiting to take a horse-drawn wagon ride down Fahnestock Lane or enjoy a goodie or warm beverage from one of our vendors.             Guests can also step out of the chill into the festive atmosphere inside our Visitors Center where even more family fun awaits. Peruse the gallery, then browse Renfrew’s museum shop and Christkindlmarkt for that special gift. Admission also includes live music, historically-inspired crafts, and more!

Guests are asked to please observe and respect COVID-19 safety and gathering restrictions in effect at time of event. Masks are required inside Renfrew’s buildings at all times and outdoors when a minimum distance of 6′-0″ cannot be maintained. This event will be held rain or shine, and is designed to be indoor-outdoor with limited occupancy permitted within buildings. There’s plenty of room to spread out at multiple locations on the farmstead and maintain physical distancing. Guests are encouraged to stagger their arrival and may enter at any point during the scheduled event time on their chosen date. A period of about two hours is recommended to fully enjoy all planned activities. Sanitizing stations will be provided by Renewal By Andersen Central PA.

Christmas on the Farm is scheduled for three days only: Friday, December 4 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm; Saturday, December 5 from 3:30pm to 8:30pm; and Sunday, December 6 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 3 to 12, and free for children ages 2 and under. Friends of Renfrew Museum and Park Members are also admitted free. Main Street, Waynesboro during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Admission may also be purchased on site at two “Welcome Tent” locations at the east and west ends of the park.

Wilson College invites the public to take part in Las Posadas-a Mexican Christmas tradition re-enacting the story of Christ’s birth-being held on the campus, Thursday, Dec. 5. The celebration will run from 6 to 8 p.m., starting at the Brooks Science Center and ending with a meal in Laird Hall.

In the Mexican culture, Las Posadas re-enacts the Nativity story, following the journey Joseph and Mary made from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of a refuge where Mary could give birth. When they were unable to find lodging in Bethlehem, Joseph and Mary sought shelter in a stable, where Jesus was born.

During the Wilson celebration, children will walk on luminary-lighted paths around the campus, seeking “shelter” for their group. They will visit three buildings on campus, with the Wilson College Choir leading the group in traditional Posadas songs as they walk. All participants are invited to take part in an interactive Christmas play that will take place along the walk. A bilingual script will be provided.

The group’s search for shelter will end at Laird Hall, where a celebration with prayer, music and authentic Mexican pozole (a traditional pork stew served at Christmas), tamales and appetizers provided by Chambersburg’s Veroni Cafe will conclude the celebration. Children will be treated to a piñata after dinner.

Learning Campus, Wilson’s after-school tutoring program for the children of migrant families, is hosting and co-sponsoring the celebration, along with the Wilson College Choir, Spanish Club, Muhibbah Club, Learning Campus Club, Office of Student Development, chaplain’s office and the Office of Marketing and Communications.
