49th Annual “Sidewalk Days” taking place July 8-9 in downtown Greencastle
What do crab cakes, paper flowers, jewelry makers, fresh lemonade, music and martial arts have in common? They are all participating in the Greencastle-Antrim Annual Sidewalk Days festivities to be held this year on July 8 and 9 in downtown Greencastle.
This year’s event, sponsored by Lumber Direct, marks the 49th annual Sidewalk Days and promises to be bigger and better than ever with more than 80 vendors participating including food vendors offering savory and sweet items such as smoked BBQ sandwiches, walking tacos, gourmet grilled cheese, caramel popcorn and luscious creamy ice cream, live entertainment on the square, artisans and craftspeople showcasing amazing talent and live demonstrations of a variety of do-it-yourself projects.
This annual event is a favorite treat for many local and regional residents because of the plethora of items showcased and the great bargains to be had. This year for the first time ever, a portion of Baltimore Street will be closed to all traffic on Friday from 7 AM until 7 PM and again on Saturday from 8 AM until 4 PM. “Closing the road to all traffic has been discussed for many years and this year we decided to apply for permission from Penn Dot because of the very real concern for pedestrian and vendor safety,” said Georgina Cranston, Executive Director for the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce. Recognizing the enormous effort this requires on the part of the local fire and police personnel, the Chamber has solicited donations from areas businesses, to offer a small token of appreciation to the volunteers of the event.
“As usual, out local businesses have really stepped up to help us carry out this event,” said Cranston. “In addition to our main sponsor, Lumber Direct, we are proud to showcase Corning Credit Union and Franklin County Visitor’s Bureau (entertainment sponsors) as well as E.L.M. Shoes and Manitowoc (Volunteer Sponsors). Other companies such as Waste Management and AC&T are providing in-kind services and we are blessed to have a great core of volunteers including the Lion’s Club of Greencastle who man the Chamber table during the two-day event.
Don’t miss this two-day fun-filled family event on July 8 and July 9 in downtown Greencastle. There is ample parking on the side streets, at the Jerome King Playground and in the Borough Parking lot.
