Pine Hill Recreation Area, 12684 Mentzer Gap Rd, Waynesboro, Pa. For kids in grades K–5. Students will go on a guided “wondering walk” through the forest, and learn how humans keep warm in the winter. Students work together with others to gather a variety of natural materials like branches and leaves, and build a lean-to structure or fort, requiring collaborative creativity and teamwork. August 4th, 2022 * 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM This program introduces STEM concepts. Students will enjoy a seasonal nature book, Fort Building Time by Megan Wagner-Lloyd. They will go on a guided “wondering walk” through the forest. Finally, students will work together with others to build a lean-to structure with natural materials. Taught by Institute educators, each program includes educational activities related to the season. Sign up for any or all of the individual sessions. Tuesday February 22nd, 2022 * 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM Register for one session OR the full series of four programs! The final EXPLORE! in the February series. Kids will enjoy an outdoor adventure while learning about the wonders of nature. This program introduces STEM concepts. Students will enjoy a seasonal nature book, Fort Building Time by Megan Wagner-Lloyd. They will go on a guided “wondering walk” through the forest, and learn how humans keep warm in the winter. Finally, students will work together with others to build a lean-to structure with natural materials. Instructor: Lynn Teach Grades: K–5 Cost: $5 member, $6 non-member. Limit: 15. Location: Pine Hill Recreation Area COVID protocols in accordance with CDC and PA DOH guidelines will be followed. Masks are not required for outdoor activities, but are recommended when appropriate distancing (3 feet) is not possible.
