I (Heart) Pine Cones: Discover the Pines at Pine Hill
Pine Hill Recreation Area, 12684 Mentzer Gap Rd, Waynesboro, Pa.
For kids in grades K–5.
Students will go on a guided “wondering walk” through the forest, and learn how humans keep warm in the winter.
Students work together with others to gather a variety of natural materials like branches and leaves, and build a lean-to structure or fort, requiring collaborative creativity and teamwork.
This program introduces STEM concepts through problem solving.
Cost: $6 for Institute members; $7 general public.

Summer Institute: EXPLORE! Summer Fun & Fort Building, Waynesboro

August 4th, 2022 * 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
This program introduces STEM concepts.
Students will enjoy a seasonal nature book, Fort Building Time by Megan Wagner-Lloyd.
They will go on a guided “wondering walk” through the forest.
Finally, students will work together with others to build a lean-to structure with natural materials.
Taught by Institute educators, each program includes educational activities related to the season.­­

COVID protocols in accordance with CDC and PA DOH guidelines will be followed.
Masks are not required for outdoor activities, but are recommended when appropriate distancing (3 feet) is not possible.
