We love the bold contrast of black and white used to portray the Snowy Owl. This is done on a black 16×20 canvas with acrylics.
Your drawing will be on the canvas for you. All paints will be provided. If you need brushes, please be sure to indicate how many kits you need.
This is a virtual online class held on Zoom. You will receive an email with the link to join in the class.
You will need to pick up your canvas and supplies the Thursday before class, February 18, between 1-6 pm at Joyful Arts Studio. If you cannot make this pickup time please contact Susan to make different arrangements.
An owl walk along trails in Pine Hill Recreation Area 12684 Mentzer Gap Rd. Waynesboro, sponsored by The Institute, this winter excursion is led by naturalist, Lori Schlosser.
The activity is free (donations accepted), but registration is required and limited to 20. Covid-19 safety measures will be in place. Face masks are mandatory, along with appropriate distancing. Signed waivers are also required to register.
Schlosser will first present a brief introduction to owls. She will then lead the group along trails in the park. During several stops, the group will pause and call various owls, including the great horned owl, the barred owl and the screech owl.
Patience is required when trying to call owls. “If the calls are too loud, you can scare them off,” Schlosser said. Participants must stand quietly for short periods of time to watch for owl flight and listen for owl reply calls.
Participants should dress appropriately for the weather. Boots are suggested as some of the trails could be wet and muddy. Flashlights are permitted; however, participants will be asked to turn them off during the walk to allow their eyes to adjust to the darkness.
New Location: This Owl walk will be at the Monterey Country Club in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.!
Naturalist Lori Schlosser will conduct this outdoor walk on the wooded grounds of the Monterey Country Club. The walk will take place outdoors at locations around the golf course deemed best for attracting local owls. The Monterey golf course area is home to Great Horned Owls and Screech Owls, and is an excellent location for owl watching.
A brief pre-walk informational talk will help participants learn more about these nocturnal creatures and the methods used to locate them.
The entire program will be outdoors, so dress warmly and bring flashlights.
This event is free (donations accepted).
Enrollment is limited to 25 and pre-registration is required; register via email at info@instituteatrenfrew.org.
