A Cappella & Unplugged Events & Details:
OPEN MICS:
A Cappella & Unplugged open mics are an important component to the competition. They serve as the auditioning platform. Each one is held in venues all around the county – restaurants, breweries, wineries, coffee houses and events centers. The FIRST open mic of the season begins during the Chambersburg IceFest at the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center. After the first open mic, there are typically FOUR to FIVE until June. Below are the guidelines and details:
- 2 Song, 10 Minute Set Time
- Lyrical/musical content must be friendly to all ages
- Performers must either perform solo or in a group (no splitting performances)
- Performances must either be A Cappella or unplugged (no amplification, no microphones, no electronics)
- Instruments must be portable enough to be carried/held (no full drum kits, pianos, wheeled instruments)
- Be respectful to all performers
- Performers should arrive 30 minutes before open mic (if unable, contact Evan)
- All open mics are FREE to the public
ROUND 1
Round 1 of the competition takes place at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Chambersburg. The round consists of acts that are collected through the open mics around Franklin County. Each act will perform ONE song before a live audience and a panel of judges. Acts are broken up into a PART 1 and PART 2. Both parts are split by an intermission. Once the final act of PART 2 finishes performing, the judges panel will check over their scores and then scores are reviewed. Once the review is complete, SIX acts will be chosen to pass on to the Final Round of the competition. However, the audience will also participate in a vote for the “People’s Choice”. This act receives a cash prize of $100 and passes as a finalist. ROUND 1 IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC!
Details for Round 1:
- Each act performs ONE song (no songs longer than 5 minutes)
- Lyrical/musical content MUST be friendly to all ages
- Roster of act must be the same as open mic audition (no adding/switching members)
- Live sound provided (no use of additional amplifiers or audio equipment)
- Instruments must be carried/held by hand (no full drum kits, pianos, wheeled instruments)
FINAL ROUND
The Final Round of the A Cappella & Unplugged takes place after the conclusion of Old Market Day and before the Burning of Chambersburg. All performances take place on the Franklin County Courthouse steps. Each performer will be adequately amplified for audience members to hear without issue. Finalists will perform ONE song each. After the last act finishes their performance, audience members get to vote on who should be dubbed the winner of the competition. The winning act will receives the grand prize of $500 and then performs an encore for audience members.
