2026 June Programs | Cowans Gap State Park, Fort Loudon

June 5th * 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM | Bird Watchers
Join the park educator on a walk around the Lakeside Trail to discover what birds are visiting the park! Bring your binoculars & meet at the amphitheater.
June 6th * 8:15 PM – 9:30 PM | Bat Night
Come enjoy a night under the stars with the bats and learn all about these fascinating creatures! Bring blankets, and chairs for a fun evening.  Meet at the amphitheater.
June 12th * 10:00 AM | June Trail Challenge
Join us as we explore the parks trails every month! This month we will be exploring the two overlooks that the park has to offer.  The hike is around 4 miles long and can take up to 3-4 hours depending on group.  Please wear proper hiking shoes and bring water.  Not recommended for smaller children as there will be various terrain, rocky, and wet conditions. Registration is required.
June 13th * 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM | Afternoon Kayak Paddle
Join the park educator on an afternoon paddle around the lake as we explore what makes the park so great! Life jackets required to be worn. Participants must be 12 years or older. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited spots available. Meet at the amphitheater. Registration Required.
June 13th * 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Music in the Gap: Shindiggin’
Join us at the amphitheater for the first of three free summer concerts presented by the Friends of Cowans Gap. Bring a chair or a blanket relax on the amphitheater lawn. There is a limited bench seating and available on a first come basis.
June 20th * 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Art in the Park
Join artist Barbara Randall as she assists attendees win creating a landscape painting of the park. All materials are provided. The cost for the program is $35 which should be brought to the program. Meet at the Nature Center. This program is sponsored by the Friends of Cowans Gap.  Registration is required.
June 26th * 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Evening Kayak Paddle
Join the park educator on an afternoon paddle around the lake as we explore who may come out at night at kayak and gear provided. Life jackets required to be worn. Participants must be 12 years or older. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited spots available. Meet at the amphitheater. Registration Required.
June 27th * 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM| June Volunteer Workday
Sign-in at the Brightbill Interpretive Center. Join us for our monthly volunteer workdays. Projects will include work on the Nature Center Pollinator Gardens, and general clean-up of the trails and park. Go to dcnrvolunteers.pa.gov to sign up ahead of time.
