The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society

Thursday February 17th, 2023 * 7:00 PM
The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society will meet at the State Line Ruritan Building, 15481 Park Drive, located off Route 11 at the State Line, PA Community Park.
Guest speaker is Ed Maliskas, an historian and musician from Hagerstown, MD.
Mr. Maliskas has a degree in history from the University of Illinois, performed in the rhythm and blues band “Eddie and the Sensations,” and authored two books: “John Brown to James Brown-The Little Farm Where Liberty Budded, Blossomed, and Boogied” and “The Family Tree of R&B.”
The program will be “America’s Second Most Important History Site.”
Three historical events took place at John Brown’s Farm (aka the Kennedy Farm) in southern Washington County, MD.
It was the hideout for John Brown and his troops as they prepared for the raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859.
The second and third uses of the property were its launchings of the Civil Rights movement and rhythm & blues as a beloved American music form.
The public is invited, free.
