StoryWalk® Event – June 2025 | Buttonwood Nature Center, Waynesboro
June 1 @ 1:30 pm
Sunday June 1st, 2025 * 1:30 PM
Our guided walks along the StoryWalk® trail continue.
NEW for 2025, special events will happen four times a year to mark the season.
Each StoryWalk® event celebrates the new season in a fun and meaningful way with extra fun and special activities.
Our summer event is on Sunday, June 1st at 1:30 p.m.
The June StoryWalk® event celebrates Summer—and our furry, four-legged friends—dogs!
The book is Being a Dog: A Tail of Mindfulness by Maria Gianferrari.
Simply be like a dog with this irresistible picture book that introduces readers to mindfulness.
Illustrated by #1 New York Times bestselling artist Pete Oswald.
In the story, we join a young child and their dog as they experience every minute of the day to its fullest—from the second they wake up to the moment they fall asleep.
Readers will love barking, wagging, and sniffing along with the gentle cues in the book.
About the author: Maria Gianferrari is a picture book reader/writer, dog lover, and bird nerd.
She writes books that honor our bonds with creatures both domestic and wild and that celebrate the natural world around us.
She lives with her family in Massachusetts, where deer, coyotes, bobcats, bears, and wild turkeys pass through her backyard.
In cooperation with the Antietam Humane Society, kids will enjoy a guided walk along the story trail as they read the book and participate in fun activities while walking some amazing shelter dogs!
At the end of the walk there will be time to play with the shelter dogs and to give them some special treats!
NOTICE: Only shelter dogs on this hike—no personal pets.
“With dogs in tow, everyone will have fun on the story trail excursion!” said Mary Claire King, Buttonwood’s watershed science coordinator and the event organizer.
The event is FREE and registration is not required. For more information, email to: info@buttonwoodnaturecenter.org or call 717.762.0373.
All families are welcome, but activities are geared for preschool and elementary age kids.
Beginning in 2025, the stories posted on the StoryWalk® trail at Pine Hill Park will change every two months, with a special StoryWalk event scheduled to mark each season.
