The Institute is offering a series of six new outdoor adventure programs in June & July.
Designed for kids in grades K to 5, the EXPLORE! at Pine Hill Recreation Area in Waynesboro, Pa.
All program activities are outside. Each week will feature a different theme.
Taught by Institute educators, every program includes educational activities related to the season and theme.
The theme for June 30 is Beautiful Bugs.
The group will learn about the variety of insects, and play an insect game. They will take a discovery hike in the woods, read a cicada book, and make a cicada-themed craft to take home.
Grades: K–5

In the early fall, insects are everywhere! Kids will use their senses of sight and hearing to search out various “critters” in different types of habitats. Participants will learn about and view insects using bug boxes and magnifying glasses. Get ready to be amazed by the incredible variety of insects we can find right underneath our noses!
Age: Grades K-5 Cost: $10 member of Institute of Renfrew, $12 non-member Limit: 15.

Discover nocturnal insects at Renfrew Park! The program introduces participants to insects not normally seen during the daytime. The instructor will talk about the special attributes these bugs have to live at night, and the group will examine the ones they can catch up-close. Bring flashlights, and a blanket or folding chairs to sit on. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Age: Families with children, 6 years and up Cost: $10 adults/$5 children (members of Institute at Renfrew); $12 adults/$6 children (non-members) Limit: 25.
