Pages, The Fendrick Library’s Library Loving Bear puppet, needs your help to launch a NEW Puppet Program! Help Pages by signing-up to be a part of the NEW Puppet Team!
Recently The Fendrick Library received a grant to expand their puppet program to benefit all ages in our community. Pages already has many fans from his puppet shows promoting the library and the Summer Reading Program. The Fendrick Library plans to build on this success by adding more puppets and more shows to promote literacy.
Why create a puppet program? Everyone loves puppets and puppet shows are entertaining for all ages! Puppets are the perfect way to attract families to the library. Studies continue to show the importance of Summer Reading Programs in preventing the “summer slide” when many students loose skills over the summer months. Children are naturally drawn to puppets, so even the reluctant reader will be excited about visiting the library. Even infants and non-readers are drawn into the story presented by puppets and benefit from hearing the narrative. Puppets with workable mouths are an excellent resource to inspire the teaching of phonics and literacy. Puppet scripts can be written to introduce a variety of skills and topics; and puppet shows are an exciting addition to any program or event.
The NEW Puppet Group plans to offer performances for the Story Hour families; local day care facilities; Head Start programs and other organizations year round.
