WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER & FALL “SOAR” Bird Walks, The Institute

SOAR (“Studying Ornithology Around the Region”) bird walks
IMPORTANT: Locations rotate year-round among several parks in the region, with Waynesboro’s Antietam Meadow Park as “home base.”
The monthly schedule for the first six months of 2023 is below.

First and third Saturdays ONLY
Start time: 8:00 AM 
January: Antietam Meadow Park (meet in parking lot)
February: Carroll Valley Community Park – 5685 Fairfield Rd, Carroll Valley—across Fairfield Rd (PA 116) from Liberty Mountain Ski Resort. Meet in front of Borough Bldg/Library
March: Caledonia State Park (meet at park office)
April: Pine Hill Recreation Area (meet in parking lot)
May: Conococheague Institute (meet at visitor center)
June: Gettysburg National Battlefield (meet at Virginia monument)
First and third Saturday spring, summer, fall and winter bird walks find birding enthusiasts Sharon and Larry Williams of Waynesboro leading the walks along the hiking trails at varying locations throughout the area.
Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and may bring identification books and binoculars.
Free and open to the public.
Just show up—no reservations required!

Salamander Scramble 5K Fundraiser 2022, The Institute

Monday July 4th 2022 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Join Team Salamander for the Salamander Scramble 5K!
Kids Fun Run is 7:15 a.m., and Scramble 5K is 7:30 a.m.
Waynesboro’s Summer Jubilee and Firecracker 5K are ON!!!
We hope to see everyone walk, run—or scramble!—for The Institute in 2022!
Details are still being ironed out, but we’ll have two ways to participate—virtual and in-person.

The race is conducted in conjunction with Waynesboro’s Firecracker 5K.

Our VIP tent will be set up, location to be determined.
Lace up your running/walking shoes and join Team Salamander as we “scramble” around Waynesboro to raise funds for The Institute.
Team members secure funding pledges from friends, family, and co-workers. All athletic levels are welcome. 
Don’t want to “scramble” but want to help? We need volunteers for flagging—training provided!

The Salamander Scramble 5K is BACK! 
Kids Fun Run is 7:15 a.m., and Scramble 5K is 7:30 a.m.
With safety modifications in place, we hope to see everyone walk, run—or scramble!—for The Institute!
