Allison-Antrim Museum, 365 South Ridge Avenue, Greencastle, Pennsylvania 17225 will hold its mid-summer speaker meeting on Thursday, July 10, in the German Bank Barn beginning at 7 p.m.  The facility is wheelchair accessible.

Darwin Seiler, former history teacher in the Waynesboro area school district, will be the speaker. Seiler’s PowerPoint presentation will be about The Battle of Monterey Pass which was part of the retreat from the Battle of Gettysburg. The Monterey Pass battle was fought on the evening of July 4th and the early morning hours of July 5th. This engagement is the only Civil War action to be conducted on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line. Fought in driving rain and total darkness, the battle of Monterey Pass is, in terms of milage, the longest of the Civil War.  Seiler will also share information on the origins and development of the Monterey Pass Museum and battlefield preservation.

Darwin G. Seiler is a native of Reedsville, Pennsylvania and a graduate of Penn Highlands High School. He attended Temple University on a football scholarship and holds a BSED from Shippensburg University. Seiler retired after 32 years combined as a Social Studies teacher at Westminster, MD and Waynesboro, PA. He is currently a board member of The Friends of Monterey Pass Battlefield Museum and is a frequent speaker on local history

There is no fee to attend, but donations are greatly accepted toward Allison-Antrim Museum’s annual speaker series.  For more information, visit the website at www.greencastlemuseum.org, or follow us on Facebook at Greencastlemuseum.
