Just before noon on August 20, America’s 9/11 Motorcycle Ride passed through the square of Chambersburg. The police-escorted motorcylces are remembering the dedicated service of the First Responders when on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, two-hijacked planes hits the World Trade Center, one crashed into the Pentagon, and another plane crashed in Shanksville. Though 2,997 people perished, the efforts of first responders saved so many. The ride honors these trained professionals, who served in this emergency–police, firefighters, paramedics, EMTs. Franklin County has two 9/11 tribute memorials–one at the Franklin County Veteran’s Park at Letterkenny and another at Red Run Park in Waynesboro. Discover this and more military history in the Franklin County Military Trail Guide.
