On July 30th some of our local Certified Tourism Ambassadors (CTAs) got the chance to experience a history talk and tour of the grounds and museum of Monterey Pass Battlefield Park and Museum by CTA program coordinator and local historian, John Miller. Afterwards the group enjoyed tapas and drinks at Michaux Brewing Company, just down the road from the Battlefield!
If you’ve never visited Monterey Pass, you are missing out! It is a 125-acre natural, cultural, and historical park located in Washington Township, Franklin County. The museum shares the story of what happened after the battle at Gettysburg. After three days of battle in Gettysburg both sides had taken substantial losses, and Robert E. Lee’s remaining troops needed to withdraw and regroup. So, 60 miles of wagons loaded with troops and supplies began their retreat towards Williamsport Maryland, about 20 miles of those wagons made their journey to Williamsport via Monterey Pass. Today guests can explore the grounds and the museum to learn all about what happened next. Click here for the hours of operation and more information about Monterey Pass Battlefield Park and Museum.
