From movies to Valentine card-making and books that get a second leaf, Grove Family Library is a must-stop, see, and do for 2023. Upcoming activities include:

Winter Reading Challenge runs December 1 through February 28.  It is available on the Beanstack app or on paper, and is for all ages.  There are several types of reading and activity challenges to perform in order to complete a bingo.  Choose a free book when you complete your first bingo.  Participants receive prize drawing tickets for registering, completing their first bingo, or completing the entire bingo card.  Come to the library for more details.

Second Leaf:  These gently used items are for sale by donation and the profits benefit the library.  In January we will offer Health & Wellness and Cookbooks. Thank you for purchasing a Second Leaf item and supporting our library.

Service Project:  We will collect donations for Little Daisy’s Closet in January and February.  Little Daisy’s Closet is a Christian based organization that offers free items to anyone in need.  You may drop off the following gently used or new items at our library:  seasonal clothing, shoes, sheets, and blankets.  We are also accepting financial contributions and nonperishable food.  Thank you for your generosity.  Please come to the library for more information about this organization.

Thursday, January 5 from 2-3 pm:  First Thursday Program:  Working with Seasonal Affective Disorder and Wintertime Blues presented by Martha Swope, Mobile Psychiatric Nurse for Franklin and Fulton Counties.   Learn about the symptoms and ways of self-care to help lessen the effects of these conditions.  Empower yourself this winter.  Light refreshments will be offered.

Blood Pressure Screening will be done prior to the program, starting at 1:30 pm.

Thursday, January 12, from 2 – 4 pm:  Second Thursday Afternoon Movie – “Where the Crawdads Sing”.  A woman who raised herself in the Deep South marshes becomes a suspect in the murder of a man with whom she was once involved.  Based on the best-selling novel.  Join us for this captivating mystery.  Stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith, and Harris Dickinson.  Rated PG-13.  Light refreshments are offered.

Tuesday, January 24 from 6:00 – 7:45 pm: Terrific Tuesday Theater, – “The Bob’s Burgers Movie”  The Belchers try to save the restaurant from closing as a sinkhole forms in front of it, while the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant.  Cast:  H. Jon Benjamin, Kristen Schaal, and Dan Mintz.  Rated PG-13.  Come and enjoy this incredibly funny film.  Light refreshments are offered.

Tuesday, January 31 from 9:30 – 11:00 am:  Holiday Card Making.  Join us for our make-and-take Valentine’s Day Card making program.  All supplies are provided to make two lovely greeting cards.  Several door prizes will be given during the program.  Jen Alonso, Stampin’ UP! Demonstrator leads the program.  Program is free; however, donations are gratefully appreciated.  Class size is limited.  Please register by January 23.

Thursday, February 2 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.  Maintaining Safety in a Crisis Situation. Topics covered will include identifying risks and warning signs of a potential crisis, appropriate responses, and interventions, and identifying high-risk individuals in relation to mental illness and/or drug and alcohol usage. Mike Pribble, the owner of The Pribble Method, an independent crisis training business, is our presenter.  Light refreshments are offered.

Thursday, February 9, from 2:00 – 4:30 pm:  Second Thursday Afternoon Movie – “Elvis”.  The film explores the life of American music icon Elvis Presley, from his childhood to becoming a rock and movie star in the 1950s while maintaining a complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.  Stars Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, and Olivia DeJonge.  Rated PG-13.  Come experience the charismatic performance and feel the excitement of this phenomenal film.  Light refreshments are offered.

February 28 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm:  Terrific Tuesday Theater – “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.  Doctor Strange teams up with a mysterious teenage girl from his dreams who can travel across multiverses, to battle multiple threats, including other-universe versions of himself, which threaten to wipe out millions across the multiverse.  Stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Rated PG-13.  Experience this amazing, exciting, and intense film.  It’s a perfect mix of magic and entertainment. Light refreshments are offered.
