Beginning in November, Shippensburg History Center and Historical Society are looking to hand-stitch the first flag of the Continental Army. This flag, shown here, is known as the Grand Union flag. It was authorized in late December of 1775 for use by the American military. This flag flew until early 1777, when it was replaced by the thirteen-star flag. The History Center will be working on securing the supplies for this project soon. This flag will fly at all programs, including the June 2026, America250PA parade in downtown Chambersburg. If you would like to help, follow the History Center Facebook page for more information.
