Franklin County, PA – The Franklin County Visitors Bureau invites the public to experience the “wizard of illustration’s” view of Franklin County from the comfort of a guided bus tour on Sunday, October 25.
The “Wonderful Illustrator of Franklin County” tour departs from the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center in downtown Chambersburg. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with the tour returning between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $80 per person or $150 for two people. This tour includes a buffet lunch, a booklet featuring more than 60 properties sketched by W.W. Denslow, and free giveaways.
Travel aboard a deluxe motorcoach and learn about illustrator W.W. Denslow. Long before he became famous for illustrating The Wizard of Oz, Denslow was commissioned to sketch homes, businesses, and landmarks throughout Franklin County for the book Historical Sketch of Franklin County. Along the route, enjoy Franklin County’s colorful fall foliage while hearing the insights and research done from Pam Anderson, certified genealogist and W.W. Denslow enthusiast. In addition, enjoy a delicious deli buffet lunch with courses including soup, garden salad, pasta salad, meats, cheeses and bread selection at the Waynesboro Country Club.
No journey through “Oz” would be complete without giveaways and surprises, including chances to win a leather-bound reprint of Historical Sketch of Franklin County and a reprint of Denslow’s illustrated edition of Humpty Dumpty.
