Renfrew Museum and Park located at 1010 E. Main Street in Waynesboro, PA is a great, family-friendly, historical park and museum owned by the Renfrew Committee, Inc. (RCI). In 2020 Renfrew Museum and Park will be celebrating their 45th anniversary and welcome locals and visitors to come an enjoy all they have to offer from a walk on the gorgeous walking trails or picnic grounds, a variety of lectures, workshops, tours, living history demonstrations and exhibits or soak up our history at the museum. Other fun and must-do activities that are available for your enjoyment at Renfrew Museum and Park include, catch-and-release fly fishing, community events, summer Concerts, and wedding and pavilion rentals. There is something for everyone to enjoy at this Franklin County treasure!
Renfrew is currently open for business under aggressive mitigation and social distancing guidelines per the Yellow Phase of their institutional COVID-19 Pandemic Reopening Plan and will transition to the Green Phase along with the rest of Franklin County this Friday, June 19, 2020. All of their facilities, including buildings are open during regular business hours – Park Grounds: Daily from dawn until dusk; Visitors Center and Gift Shop: Monday-Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm, Saturday 1:00-4:00pm; Museum House Tours: Tuesday-Saturday on the hour at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00pm.
From the staff at Renfrew: “Renfrew is a 107-acre historic Pennsylvania German farmstead nestled along the east branch of Antietam Creek in beautiful Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Our park grounds are open daily from dawn until dusk for the enjoyment of the public. We invite visitors to “Walk Back in Time” and discover our many features including over five miles of walking trails, catch-and-release fly fishing, breathtaking scenery, historic buildings, and more! Renfrew is the perfect mix of history and nature just waiting to be explored.
In addition to the natural and historic wonders of our grounds, Renfrew operates as a history museum, managing an extensive collection of over 4,000 artifacts owned by the Borough of Waynesboro. These treasures include the nation’s largest collection of Bell Family pottery as well as early American furnishings and decorative arts, farm implements and tradesmen’s tools, longrifles and accoutrements, photographs and ephemera that tell the story of our property’s history during from the late eighteenth century to the early twentieth century.
Tours of the 1812 Royer House are offered by knowledgeable and dedicated volunteer docents who will guide visitors through the story of Renfrew’s transition from a family farm to public museum. Select programs offer living history demonstrations of period cooking, farm chores, and period lifeways. Renfrew Museum and Park and its partner, The Institute at Renfrew, Inc., host a variety of presentations and engaging programming throughout the year.”
